I was responding to anyone who thinks Clover will go undefeated for the year. They haven't played anyone, and only have competition on there schedule in Fort Mill and Northwestern. Wish they would schedule better teams to test themselves before tournament time.

Obviously the officials who referee the club games are COMPLETELY different than the ones that officiate HS. I imagine those 15 year old linesman have vast more understanding, too. They probably have their own forum with Club vs. HS thread getting tens of thousands of post a month. In fact, I had a "mole" tell me that they have three guys who simply track down club players and their high schools from 9 to 5 - all in the effort to smite them while playing for their academic institution. That will teach them to be "Elite" while the other half brain dead, one eyed, 11 toed kids on the roster run around in a blind rage. I smell what you're cooking p & y!!!!

Wish I had been cooking something up, M*A*S*H. But hadn't thought about it that way until your post.

I think the refs are MIXED also—so another problem. (But to be honest, I have noticed that refs with club AND high school experience are probably far more fair to the high school players with club experience than refs who have ONLY high school ref'ing in their blood.)

What I have been building toward is asking for real solutions to our persistent laments. Maybe coaches need to EDUCATE players and parents/fans. And most of all we need to encourage ALL coaches to know the game and to coach clean but passionate soccer.

While on the side-lines I hear a MIX of ridiculous and informed comments from the fans/parents that clearly influence players and refs.

I'm sorry if this sounds critical, but high school soccer has a far greater range of skill and knowledge than club. I mean that as a DIFFERENCE not a negative criticism. My time and energy have been spent on BOTH; my child loves BOTH.

P&Y, I agree. HS and club have vast skill and especially age differences that can alter the officiating of the game. Tell me more about your "EDUCATE" plan. I love hearing solutions on this board far more than comlaints, and you have provided us excellent answers in the past.

Can't we just sit back and enjoy girls HS soceer for what it is instead of over-analyzing every bit of the officiating? It is what it is.....my daughter loves it, p&y's daughter loves it.....and guess what, there are probably ten teams in 4A that have a legit shot at winning the state championship this year.

How many teams in South Carolina have a legitimate shot at winning the State Cup at U-18G next fall?

The HS game is a wonderful game.....unless you are soccer40.

I agree EXCEPT I would argue that since it is WONDERFUL it deserves to be better for the PLAYERS.

Coaches, refs, and fans/parents are failing the players far too often; we could all do better. Part of that would be by becoming more informed about the sport.

One advantage in club is that we have more KNOWLEDGE of the sport among everyone at the club level (yes—there are nimrods in club also, but in a lower dose/percentage). High school soccer in SC would benefit from an influx of greater knowledge of the game among those NOT playing.

I am more sensitive to high school sports because it is a different animal and I have been involved with HS for over 23 years. Most of the players I have coached in soccer are just really good young people who happen to play soccer in the spring. I think they deserve the professionalism and quality I see in club; that's all. . .
