Even though 3 of the last 4 games for the Dorman ladies have been "nailbiters", i believe it just shows the strength of the lady cavaliers. The beat Lex in PKs, as well as Byrnes last night. They are a smart team, and have great chemistry. And not to mention, maybe one of the smarter coaches in SC.

You are exactly right. We often fail to see that soccer is about winningnot about how many goals you can score. The coach is excellent.

Is Dorman planning on riding that goalkeeper all the way to the state championship? No doubt their defense is strong but if the Lady Cavs come up against a Top 5 team that decides to pack it in at the back.....does Dorman have the ability to score a goal? Or do they hang on for OT & PK's?
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

I expect they will continue to play smart and patient, waiting for opportunities they create and for the other team to make mistakes.
If that means PKs, or not, doesn't matter. The goal is to win by one goal.

"the goal is to win by one goal" I thought the goal was to have fun. Sure winning is more fun than loosing, but playing for PK's every game that is not fun. If they continue to play for PK'S it will eventually cost them as it almost and should have cost them last night.

I agree with everything said above. Dorman will probably OT & PK their way to another AAAA State title. Which will validate for Palmetto State sports fans one of the reasons why soccer is not widely embraced as a spectator sport in the United States. When something as ridiculous as PK's determines a champion . . . ?
I am not disagreeing with Coach Lorenz's strategy . . . obviously it works! Every sport I have been exposed to has coaches that favor hunkering down on defense. However, every other sport I have been exposed to still decides their championships with action in the field of play. I say let them play until they drop!

I think winning and fun are correlated highly. But if one confuses torturing players in the supposed name of winning with playing hard and working to win, then the fun is lost and all is lost, I think.
I never said and do not think DHS is "playing for PKs"; they are playing the soccer they can and need to in order to win and excel.
I think it is simplistic and misguided to accuse them of "playing for PKs," as it is to denigrate that strategy of anyone who does do it.
Not sure HS sports is intended to please fans, by the way.

You haven't been exposed to hockey?

Would you still feel this way if Lexington were in the state final and had to start at midnight because the A/AA and AAA championship matches went into umpteen overtimes?

I don't think pk's is the reason why soccer has taken so long to take roots.
I don't think Dorman plays to make it to pk's. I think they play the very best teams thus the difficulty in scoring. See Hanna vs. Dorman
I do think there is a good bit of jealousy among a Lexington fan or two, NOT THE MAJORITY. Dorman plays great defense and has an average offense. They play up to 7 freshmen. Can you imagine what they'll do next year? They are well coached, work hard, have excellent chemistry, and handle adversity better than any team I've seen in the playoffs.
