I actually think EVERYONE post "excuse-type" comments glimmertwin! Most of it are apart of the game!

To play the game is good, to win the game is great, to LOVE the game is the greatest!

I dont necessarily think that Dorman is unbeatable. Obviously they have showed a weakness in there game, by not scoring goals. I mean they only beat Gaffney 1-0 and beat Byrnes in PKs. If im not mistaken, they most goals they have scored in a game is 3. But i still think that their "defensive" strategy is amazing and it has worked agaisnt a Top 5 team in Lex. Dorman plays to their strengths, and sticks to there game plan. And to ever thinks that Lex would have beaten Dorman if they had their top 2 players, is prob not realizing that Dorman is missing some players as well. I do think that the only way to beat Dorman, is to surprise them and play their style of soccer, dont get fancy, just play smart.

Smart passes instead of just "booting" the ball to the Dorman defenders will beat Dorman. If the passing game is sharp and to your own teamates, then the Dorman defenders will not be able to just kick the ball out when it is in their end of the field.

Lets not forget that there are many variables in game that determine the outcome. Strategy is based on on knowledge and the fact that Dorman has a postage stamp field bodes well for their strategy. So IMHO I believe the Dorman coach is doing an excellent job in the strategy department.

Deahler,
Sorry if I mixed you in with some of the "we won/loss but" crowd. You are a direct and to the point kind of poster and I'm actually enjoying debating the pk point with you!
Now to your post-I really don't see how the pk at the end of regulation is more "indicative" of teamwork vs. pk's to win. Does the team not share in some of the "blame" (I hate that word, but it's gotta do)of getting in the position to take it to pks. Also if one team makes their kicks (obvious advantage to the kicker) but the opponents miss theirs, that's a team loss. Both sides are equally matched at that point.
At any rate, it should always be a win for the "team" and a loss for the "team", whatever the situation.

glimmertwin,

I now see my error . . . I took off too much down the path of "team", when a more accurate portrayal of my opinion would be, "normal game action". I think your point is (correct me if I am wrong), the whole team worked very hard to get certain individuals in to position to finish the game in PK's. I can't disagree with that. My opinion is that I would rather sudden victory (or defeat) be claimed (especially when it comes to championships), through some facsimile of "normal game action". Which by the way, would be with the whole team participating.

Where I think you and I disagree (again correct me if I am wrong), is that you seem to be implying that soccer is not all that much different from other popular sports in the US. I think it is different, especially when it comes to deciding its champions. This is the part of JMCLEMSONs post that I agree with. Where JM and I seem to disagree is that the uniqueness makes it intriguing and exciting. Maybe so, but I would rather see the championships decided in what I will call some facsimile of normal game action. This is just my opinion, which is obviously not shared by many in the soccer fandom. So be it!

Have we exhausted this topic yet? I am not sure that I have the time to do any more splainin

>>[glimmertwin] I notice that some (not all, by any means) Lex supporters are less than humble even when they win. This is not a reflection of their players or even their coaches I'm sure, but when every game that doesn't end in 5 or more goals is coined by "terribly officiated" or "resting starters" or "could have easily been 6 or 7 goals", it gets a bit tiresome.<<

When I see posts like this I always try to understand specifically to which posts are being referred. I found one, and only one, that I could see that fits your contention that "...Lex supporters are less than humble..." -- and that one was [from another thread]

>>[truefan] lexington 2 chapin 0. The chapin keeper had some of the most amazing saves I've ever seen from a high school goal keeper. This game could have easily been 6-0. Ref was horrible and spent more time talking to the lexington coaches and gesturing to the fans then he did watching the game.<<

Is this what you're referring to? Did you read it? This person is praising a terrific effort by the Chapin keeper. She/he didn't blame the score on the referees; instead they said that the refereeing was horrific [and the referee she/he is talking about was absolutely, positively, the most wretched excuse for a referee that I have seen in 10+ years of watching soccer. I've seen terrible calls before; but I've never seen such an amazing succession of tremendously awful officiating in my life. I have not a clue who the person was, but for the first time in watching lots of games, I can say that this person needs to quit refereeing soccer and find something he can at least demonstration some minimal degree of competency doing. Bad. Really, really bad.]

I'm sure that I'm simply missing your point here and that there are a lot of other posts that evince a "less than humble" attitude. Then again, I've read several different Lexington fans get on and praise Dorman; I've not seen the reverse. So perhaps you could specifically reference just who and what you're talking about.

I saw Dorman play several times last season and have seen them play once so far this season. This year's team is not even close to last year. Might make it to the semi-finals but that is about the best they can hope for. Lack of ball control will be their downfall in the playoffs.

Ball Control? Ball control? Who need ball control in order to win the state championship? All you need is a well-executed plan. Play according to your strengths.

Agreed deahler-you've been more than generous with your time and I've appreciated the debate!
Chico-I'm not going to draw specific posters into a "posting war", so I leave you to go back (even to last season and beyond) and read and interpret on your own. If you can't see it, then you can't see it. Nothing I "quote" will make you see it.
