Excellent points! If the intent of pushing oneself is arrogance, then all is lost—including the fun. If pushing oneself is to raise the level of the teammates and the team along with each player, then everyone has learned a valuable lesson.

I actually see the jealously more often from the players who do not put in effort and thing the players who do are "lucky" or "treated better" and can't see that most players who excel have worked really hard and sacrificed a great deal.

But team chemistry is vital in team sports and that relationship is one of the key lessons of sport.

And let me add—I think I have been somewhat unclear.

I LOVE fun and think fun is a PART of this. But I often find people place FUN as the goal—or at least say that. And I find that too narrow and much less than what sport offers.

Again—maybe too adult. . .

Very interesting—I think an interesting idea about how girls and boys differ—some truth to that.

I also think girls might ASSUME something personal when a "stronger" or "more skilled" or "more serious" player interacts as an athlete instead of as a "friend."

I heard Brandi Chastain had alot of fun at the Woodruff Southside game the other day. Kids you gotta luvm!

Woodruff is trying a variety of methods to increase attendance to girl’s soccer games. After having a player take her shirt off via “Brandi Chastain” style they have noticed gate proceeds are at an all time high.
