The divisions are based on the assumption that the larger the student population a coach can draw from is, the greater his chances of finding quality players (in all sports). For a large school it is not unusal to have 60 or 70 players show up for soccer tryouts. For a school of 500 kids you might be asking kids to come play just to fill out your roster. The divisions are supposed to even this out. Unfortunately, I think that proximity to good club training is far more important than student population when it comes to fielding a soccer squad. I don't see realignment as helping. Consider 3A Greenville, they can play head on with any school in the state. Would creation of a 5A division move them into 2A? I'm not sure, but if it did that would be Ugly.
