After nearly 1 full season with my sons CESA team in SC I have yet to experience an obnoxious opposing team or set of parents.

Being from the SC 'burbs of Charlotte most of our experiences are in NC. While 99% are good we have had our moments with other teams. Coaches that loudly single out players to the referees, parents who make disparaging remarks about the kids. Even players. My son at U10 was called the "n" word by an opposing player in Greesnboro. He didn't even know what it meant.

We've had experiences with Georgia teams in the past (not this year) at Concorde Fire Challenge. Parents talking negatively directly to our players, etc.

We've experienced our "rivals" in the past actively cheering against us at tournaments and stuff. Actually had a coach from a rival team watching our game at CASL Shooutout one year that went out onto the field during the game yelling at the referee over a call he didn't agree with!!

I agree......this stuff is all pretty classless.

What is classy.......is when your rivals cheer you on during tournaments, which we've also experienced!!

Maybe this thread should be re-started with examples of great sportsmanship by opposing teams!!!!

I have had the pleasure of my team - on their own - cheering for a fellow SC team even though they may be our rivals in state.

I have also experienced the opposite (most infrequent).

I have always felt that any good outcome by SC teams will reflect better on my team. Simply by association. Unfortunately the opposite is also true...including the coach's, parent's and player's behavior. In this case guilt by association.

My positive experience comes from a girls CESA team..They show alot of class and work very hard..My daughter plays with several of them on the state team

cht: i'll echo your point. after having my kid on a state team, i have tended to notice less extreme behavior on part of opposing teams that had at least one player that was a team mate on the state team.

2006-2007 Dallas Texans U18G team -- the winner by a mile.

2007-2008 Countryside U18G team -- not really in the same league as the Texans, but 1-2 parents were definitely trying to break into the rarefied upper strata of obnoxiousness that the Dallas Texans possess.

Now -- if you were to ask what metropolitan area has the most obnoxious parents/coaches; Atlanta would win hands down.

SC parents are tame compared to our border states. All one has to do is check out NC soccer message boards and Ga message boards to see how civilized SC parents are about soccer. Although Bridge 92-G and CESA 92-G premier battle for state titles each year against each other the girls hang out togeather off the field and the parents socialize togeather. My child plays for neither club.

More seriously, there's a general elitism that pervades Atlanta that you don't find in Raleigh, Charlotte, or other metropolitan areas in this region. However, like all things, it's just a few folks.

By the way -- don't know where you got the information...but shhhhhh!!!!!

Don't you know that with the inability to play against D1 schools given the NCAA ruling that programs like CAP are no longer valuable?

These guys took the ruling and are now creating and participating in events at major colleges across the south in addition to playing D2 schools. I just wish they'd market themselves a bit better -- but that's a quibble given the fact that they're offering this kind of thing to players.
