How do you get the best coaching for such a game by using years in coaching to select coaches? Shouldn't you be looking for the coaches who accomplish the most with the least resources? Are we trying to win or display? Why not have the team coached by the four winners of the state championships in May?

Also why North Carolina when they play HS in the Fall - shouldn't it be a game versus Georgia?

The rosters were announced for the "Clash of the Carolinas" at a press conference last night at halftime of the Charleston Battery vs. Minnesota Thunder USL 1st Division match at Daniel Island, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

I'll answer both of these questions.

(1) Guidelines for all-star competitions are established by our parent organization, the S.C. Athletic Coaches Association -- just like they are for the Shrine Bowl (football) and the NC/SC all-star games in basketball and baseball. We simply follow the rules.

As for the comment of "are we trying to win or display", I'll say that three of the coaches selected this year have won for more than two decades with the "hand that they've been dealt" at the prep level. Pretty solid resume' in my opinion.

(2) The North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association approached SCHSSCA in the summer of 2005 about starting an interstate all-star games and stated that their playing boys high school soccer in the fall would not be a hindrance to playing a summer all-star game. We (SCHSSCA) simply accepted that they were 'good with it' so we should be too. This is not unusual with interstate games for fall teams being played the following summer -- i.e. the Alabama vs. Mississippi All-Star Football Game that is played each June.

SCHSSCA was approached by constituents of the Georgia HS Soccer Coaches Association that same summer about a possible GA/SC all-star event, but it did not materialize after details over insurance, accommodations, physicals, facility rentals, etc. were explored with their association. There have also been overtures by members of the Tennessee coaches association as well, but again, nothing formal or very involved.
