Irmo, denied players playing a tournament with club team. Before Playoffs began. wouldn't it be better to play higher level soccer then go to Playoffs? Selfish.

Irmo has a tradition in soccer unlike any other team in the state. It is an honor to play for not only the school, but coach Savitz. I can't think of many (if any) high school teams I would say this about, but if you made the Irmo Varsity team, and you have a problem putting that team ahead of your club team, maybe you should consider not trying out at the school next year.

Several questions. First, were you going to miss a game, a practice, or nothing? If nothing, I'm not sure why a high school coach would care. If a practice or a game, then what were the penalties for missing? Please -- give us a little more context for what the real problem was.

When you say "selfish" you need to understand that this is a case in which it's you (and whoever else was on the team that wanted to play in a club-related event) versus the remainder of the high school team, with the coach representing the team. The coach has to weigh the interest of the high school team first -- that's her/his job. Of course, the coach also has to weigh the interest of the individual player as well.

In this parent's opinion, Coach Savitz and his staff have been very accomodationg when it comes to club vs school soccer at the JV level. The policy is clear . . . Club takes priority over JV. Period.

At the HS level, one should not expect the same policy, becuase the club season for 9-12 is during the Fall and not the Spring. The few exceptions of exhibition games for 15's and older I expect would be allowed by the Irmo staff as long as they don't conflict with HS games.

Anyone fortunate enough to play in the Irmo program has the best of all options at their feet.
