Just saw in a recent SPORTS ILLUSTRATED:

SI hired Kurt Vonnegut in the early 1950s; he confessed to having NO knowledge of or concern for sports. First assignment was to write a headline for a story about a race horse who had broken free of the race and jumped a fence. KV wrote "The horse jumped the [expletive deleted] fence." He promptly walked out of the office and never returned.
