The Spartanburg Herald-Journal covers many high school matches the next day—with very good article. They also do several "feature" pieces on high school soccer players throughout the season. They have weekly stats, and their All-Area spread and selections are usually done very well.

I think this paper has treated soccer well—especially treating girls and boys on equal footing.

That's the thing, we all have our "important" matches and want to read about as much as possible. It's a lot easier with football. On Friday have the coaches send in the stats and print, post the records, somebody makes up predictions, pick one school to do a feature on, and then post the results on Saturday. With so many games going on (sometimes 24 soccer vs 11 football) it can be overwhelming. Football shares the spotlight with Volleyball and girls golf, while spring has softball, baseball, boys soccer, girls soccer, track, and boys golf. You can cover all, but none well. No win situation.

The Aiken Standard is the best I've seen at doing their job. The Anderson Independet has done much better than in the past, but they still think they're a Georgia paper at times. Want more coverage? Get to know your sport's reporter, email him, and submit your own skeleton articles for them to fix and print. Lots of people can complain, but the serious and intelligent ones do something about it.

Our paper in Florence stinks. They very seldom have more than 3 or 4 sentences about games. If the games end later than 8:00pm you'll wait 2 days most of the time for the scores. Coverage for girls soccer is worse than boys. JV is non-existant.

Be the Pan...errrr uhh the liason and write the articles for them! Go Florence!

I sent an e-mail to our local newspaper, The Morning News. Told the guy this was the first year for our girls team, first year for JV, and first winning season for boys varsity in the history of the program. He told me they were to busy to cover high school soccer. The irony is that same day there was an article about Wilson, the week before about South Florence and West Florence. They pick and choose down here.
Our once a week city paper has done a nice job though!

I've e-mailed, called, written a letter.. only thing left is to show up at 4:00 in the morning with no make-up. That ought to scare 'em..

Thank you so much. It is good to hear someone say that considering all the negative that usually goes on between coaches and refs.

It will be interesting to see what THE STATE will do tonight. Both, Upper-State & Lower-State championships being played in the midlands. Will THE STATE cover both matches? I doubt it! But I hope they prove me wrong.

Kick it are you the coach at DHS? If My brother tells me great things about you. Most of all you are doing great things with your team. Not really sure about the Ohio State thing but I guess I can over look that.
