so its down to the final 4 teams for 3a

riverside at greenville
will riverside take another "upset" bid like last year or will greenville continue to dominate?

and

socastee at chapin
will soc. lose its fire away from the coast and let chapin win its first lowerstate championship or will their winning streak continue?

any thoughts?

I think that Socastee is the better team in that they have done better against ranked teams that both teams have faced. Case and point...Chapin played Brookland-Cayce twice and was only able to score one goal both times(one game in overtime). The other team that comes to mind would be Myrtle Beach. They never scored more than two goals in the two games they played-one game was only 2 by virtue of Pks. However, Socatee has scored 4 goals on Myrtle Beach the first game they played and recorded a 2-0 shutout the second time around. I think Socastee will come away with the win to go to the State Championship game. Best of luck to Socastee and Coach Suarez in what would be the second championship game showing in three years.

Should be an awesome game. I watched Socastee play Irmo earlier in the year in the LMC. They are a team much like Chapin, with good forwards and a decent back line. I think Socastee might have the upperhand in the midfield though. Chapin defenitily has the better goalkeeping with two all-region goalkeepers. (Who seemed to be a little underrated, both better than Gypin) But I think that Socastee will come out of this one with a 2-1 OT win b/c of the mismatch in the midfield. Should be a fantastic game and can't wait for it!

I think Socastee wins 2-0, with quick play combination from the forwards Orlando Clark and Justin Watson and a very strong midfield from Topher Pecora and Bobby Belair. Bobby will not let anyone beat him to a ball in the air, even with a gash wrapped up like a mummy. And I agree with coladad on the strong defense.

I missed this comment, but need to address it. Haze Weinspach was named Region 4-3A Player of the Year and deservedly so! He's been tremendous for Chapin this season and is a force in the net and up top for the Eagles. In my opinion, he was the difference in both games vs. B-C that enabled CHS to claim the region title. His versatility was a big reason why he was named Region POY!

As for J.C. Gypin, I guess "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I've seen a lot of soccer this year and he's been the best in the business between the sticks. I don't praise people publicly very often, but Gypin is an unbelievable goalkeeper. Whether he played at B-C is irrelevant -- the kid is a super goalkeeper and he'll do very well at the next level.

What about Chapin's Right Defender that broke his leg? Is that a major concern for the Chapin team or just a small obstacle they have to overcome?

Congrats to the Chapin Boys for their victory Saturday in Bluffton ~ can't say that I've seen many of those kind of games or fans, thank goodness! Hats off as well to Greg DeMare, David Mathiessen, David Stone, Haze Weinspach and Tyler Williams for being selected All-Region and Tyler and Haze for All-State. They are a great bunch of boys!!

Greenville 2-1 over Riverside. I dont think homefield advantage will play any role because Riverside will bring just as many fans. And these kids will all be able to play at their A game on the fairly flat Sirrine field. I give Greenville the win because Sebastian will make the difference. Greenville will get a bunch of chances going forward with him, Kleckley, and Orders coming up from midfield. I don't think any of Riverside's defenders can shut down Sebastian, and their offense is not too strong. But I could be wrong. If Riverside gets a great game from their goalkeeper and midfield it could go their way. Riverside will need to control the midfield to have a chance to win the game. And if Finotti comes up with a good game plan, Riverside should be able to come up with a bunch of chances from counterattacks. We'll see!
