It is amazing to me to see how many people support Lincoln without realizing or ever witnessing what they are about.

Earlier this year, when we played in McClellenville, there was a foul called late in the game where their player received a yellow card but they got a direct kick 22ish yards from goal. Their stands erupted, and a spectator jumped the fence, confronted the referee and tried to attack our players with a miniature baseball bat. A second spectator was allowed to get on the field. The Game Administrator was counting tickets and money at the ticket table. A couple of their high profile players commented several times late in the game that they were going to "pick a random player and mug them". If you do not believe me, I can send you a copy of the game tape. As we exited the stadium after the win, their players and fans shouted profanities at our team and our parents and threw things at our bus. One of the two spectators ejected from the game climbed the fence behind our bus and was beating on the back window of our bus as we were boarding to leave. There was no security in sight- no police officer, no Game Administrator and no Head Coach.

Yes, Lincoln beat us 5-1 and the game was tied 1-1 at the half. The interesting thing is that Lincoln had a non-rostered coach named Ted Rosengarden meet with the team at half time; then he consulted with Coach Hartnett toward the end of half time and then remained on the bench for the first 3-4 minutes of the second half (continuously consulting with Coach Hartnett) before returning to the stands. I was under the assumption that the only people allowed on the bench after the opening whistle are people on the official game roster. Has the SCHSL league changed this rule?

I would also like everyone to know that after the game, instead of shaking hands, many Linclon players had taken their jersyes off and were dangling them in the face of our players shouting "whatcha think about this" while the coaching staff watched, listened and did nothing. Their bus was also tremendously late in leaving and their players were allowed to continuously taunt our parents and fans. If you have wished Lincoln good luck against Chirst Church, then you are endorsing this behavior.

On the other hand, when we beat Christ Church earlier this year, the two teams acted like what should be expected between two teams who battled. We shook hands as coaches, the players shook hands... there were no dirty/cheap fouls or assault comments made towards the end of the match... just like the past several years, the losing team and winning team in the AMHS/CCES game lost and won with dignity... the winning team did not taunt the losing team. i enjoy our games with CCES b/c i know Coach Wilcox has a firm grasp on his program and players. The games are physical and competitive, but no matter what, if either us or CCES gets up on the other, there is a high level of respect between the two teams, and a respect for the game, that I feel is a reflection on Coach Wilcox, Coach Bennage and myself.

Please cry about it some more. I honestly think that you are just bitter about the loss. You just try to find excuses, congrats on a good season for the Academic Magnet but please give Lincoln their due. They beat you and deserve to play for the state championship.

I know Ted Rosengarden personally(great coach)...I know he lives out in Mclelenville, so he is propably tied in with the orginazation.

do you think shannon champ can not get it done at Wando now? The trophy has returned to the Lower State where it belongs and where it should remain.

Well we had the priviledge of playing Lincoln early in the season, and they did the typical trash talking, but i find it hard to believe that you are trying to portray these guys as a bunch of "thugs" or kids that have no self-control. When they came to Jasper, they were respectful and the players didnt seem or act like anything you just described coach. Now, if you just beat a team that swept you during the regular season in the state semifinals, wouldn't you be happy?? Also, i'm pretty sure AM was doing some trash talking about winning. SO congrats to both, but big ups to Lincoln and good luck today.

Voice....Sorry you had this experience. We have played these boys (& girl, sorry) a few times over the past couple of years. Win or lose, they have been very respectful and mannerly. Sure they celebrated when they won, but we never perceived this as an attack on our personal safety.

There are several real good kids on that team, and I am not just talking about their soccer skills. Best of luck to them them today. Bring it Lincoln !!!

Voice is telling the truth, same type of behavior when we played. Players talking trash and taunting myself and my players. I wonder how they behavied today after they lost?

interesting point. The person in question is not authorized to be on the bench if not on the roster.

I know of an instance where a team was DISQUAILFIED from a tournament after an overnight appeal when an non roster coach met with the team during halftime OFF the field.

I have known these players since they were 10 and I have always had the utmost respect for them. When WHS played them in McClelenville , there was very little trash talking and the only problem with the game was the excessive amount of bugs (Nats) around the field. Albeit there were some skeptical calls from the referees, but hey, every team/field/area has those… BTW, we didn’t have to pay to get into the game and that was the only game that I have ever not had to pay to get into….

Be that as it may, I am not discounting the AM experience, nor am I belittling it, I am just simply stating that if it was that bad, I just cant believe that it came from Terrance, Preston, Nicholas, or Darwin. These young men have had to battle every adversity you can imagine to become the great young people they are and I wish them the world…..

And, who really cares if Ted helped them? I don’t think a game goes by when a club coach has “Barked Out” to a player he/she knows so well, and wants to help. Their not an “Official” coach and nor should they be. But, when a coach has a vested interest in a player, you feel the need to interject when necessary. Not to undermine the HS coach, but to improve the player and the team….

I'm getting 2 things here:

1. Ted Rosengarten must be one heck of a coach. I mean he by himself is 4 goals better than you and your team.

2. The only reason people cheer for Lincoln is because of their story. It is the typical case of the ultimate "haves" (Christ Church) and the ultimate in "have-not" (Lincoln). Obviously, people root for the underdog even with hypocrisy boldly starring them in the face. Other than that, sounds like you got taunted. That sucks. Send the tape into the high school league. Maybe Roger will make a decision on it in about 4 years after he consults with the high school league. (goodevening?)
