Congratulations to all of the ladies that made the Super 22. The number of quality players who did not make it onto the squad is testament to just how hard it is to make this team. Good job.

And another BIG "Thank you" to all that scsoccer.com and the soccer coaches assoc have done for our prep soccer ladies all season. Things in HS soccer in SC have come a long way in the last decade.

As an FYI for those with an interest in these kinds of things. My guess is that the boys would show a much wider distribution with respect to clubs and teams.

2006-2007 club teams for the Super 22:

• 7 played for CESA U18G Premier.
  
• 5 played for CESA U17G Premier.
  
• 3 played for MPSC U18G White.
  
• 2 played for CUFC U18G Elite.
  
• 2 played for Tega Cay U18G.
  
• 1 played for CESA U18G Challenge.
  
• 1 played for CUFC U17G Elite.
  
• 1 is unknown (Terry Chandler).
  

2007-2008 club teams for the 6 Super 22 players not graduating:

• 5 will play for CESA U18G Premier.
  
• 1 will play for CUFC U17G Elite.
  

I'm actually shocked that 9 of the 22 girls (over 40%) don't play for CESA. With Big Red so dominant at the club level, I can't believe there was room for so many others.

I'm sure Chico, g&b....and even myself (I like the girl from Wren) can come up with some more CESA girls who deserved to be on this team. Nice to see that the committee decided to "spread the wealth" by taking a hard look at high school acheivement.

Several CESA U18G didn't play high school or played private school. But I actually thought CESA was well represented. Not under-rep'd.

Making such a list—as with picking any MVP or All-Star—is a challenge—depending on what characteristics we think are being used to select.

I'm going to posit that AAA/AAAA are OVER-rep'd and not worry about the club associations. . . .

Hurst66: The most striking thing about this to me was that only four clubs were represented - one in the upper state, two in the midstate, and one in the lower state. With the kind of geographic distribution that was achieved, I expected at least a few smaller clubs to be represented. Tega Cay was the closest to a "surprising" (i.e., not a larger more dominant club) club fielding players.

My list of the top players not making the list (note: I didn't see most of these kids play in high school, so I'm not arguing the list -- and realize that making this kind of list is incredibly difficult -- I'm just pointing out some other really good players) were Ramsey, Gmerick, Urig, and Sheets. All played in 4-A programs. All are excellent Division 1-A/1-AA candidates. I don't know of any eligible players (i.e., those that played SC public school ball) in the other classifications -- perhaps others with more insight might offer those names.

garnet&black: It would be an interesting exercise to go through the number of schools, number of students, number of players, in each division and figure out representation. It's my guess that 3-A is over-represented and 4-A is under-represented -- but I think that's more because of the strength of Riverside and Eastside than anything else. Given the number of players and teams and students, I'd be surprised if 1-A/2-A were under-represented -- but it certainly could be the case.
