I'm more concerned with the geographical disparity. 16 upper state schools 6 lower state. 4AAAA all state selected had the same disparity. Why is this? Is the super 22 selection taken from names submitted from high school coaches like all state? Thus if a high school coach doesn't submit names then naturally no one is selected from there school. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking upper state schools. I just think it should be a little more closely balanced. If the vast majority of lower state coaches are not submitting names. Then this is a major problem. They constantly preach at there player to work hard, play hard etc. during the season and off season. Yet they don't have the respect for their players enough to try to get them recognized for there hard work.

That's easy! The deepest, if not best soccer, is played in the upstate!!!!

(please, please, please know this is a joke )

I'm not very good with stats so may have to call Chico in to interpret theses numbers. State championships 2001 through 2007

4A State Championships 6 Lowerstate 1 Upperstate

3A State Championships 2 Lowerstate 5 Upperstate

2A State Championships 6 lowerstate 1 Upperstate
14 Total 7 Total

I'd have to say the Lowerstate holds it's own against upperstate schools. Especially since there teams play with apparently less talented girls. I know but had to come back at you.

Let's average this out by throwing out the HIGH and the LOW.

We'll throw out the high (4A) from the Upstate.....Lexington.

We'll throw out the low (2A) from the Lowerstate....Bishop England.

Final score....Lowerstate 8, Upstate 7. If WA doesn't pull a rabbit out of a hat against FM in 2005, it's 8-7 Upstate!

More interesting discussion here than the boys side.

I have personally not seen the "procedure" for the selecting process.

So I would guess that the committee used that all standby, "this is who I think are the best players". If the list is produced by knowledgeable people ( I think they are) it will have less bias. Therefore the only discussion left is "why I think Sallie is beter than Jane" at which point you end with an opinion, which by the way is what the Super 22 list is.

So based on the opinions of the selecting committee these are the best. You do not have to agree with them.

On the boys side it is loaded with sophomores and there is a player (IMO quite deserving of the choice to the super 22) who was not even selected to All Region (never mind all state). Yet the impact the player had for his HS team was most definetely seen. Is there a similar story in the girls group?.

I would like to add again that I think the girl list is solid—no gripes at all—my points are poised as interesting stuff we can draw from such a list—again—not a complaint—

Calculating state champs is a poor way to evaluate OVERALL quality of U or L girls programs—It is the same mistake as considering SAT averages as a reflection of overall educational quality of a state—You can't draw such a broad conclusion accurately from such a narrow data point—

Freak,

You don't like my logic? Granted, it's a little less analytical than what Chico would construct but, hey......it works!

No complaints about Charleston to produce standout soccer in this state...but outside of that area the lower state is...not as deep . Sure, DF, SV, and Summerville (please forgive my all AAAA mentioning tendencies) are quality programs, but they haven't made the big dance in a while. More depth in the Upper State, it would seem, has been shown via finals appearances by Dorman, Mauldin, Lexington, and some other team . Irmo made it as well as a lower state team, but now is US so I'm calling dibs on them too!!!

If I'm putting money on a SC game, I'm going lower state all day long. If I'm pulling for a fresh new face and exciting soccer leading up to the big game, US for me.

I've thread jacked this pretty good, but should aliens take away a city in the Upper State - which would affect girls soccer the most? Obviously Chuck Town for LS would eliminate 5 out of their last 6 State Championship appearances.

*Note Summerville is not Charleston and Lexington is not Columbia

Since we are jacking threads. . .

I would like to add that I believe SCsoccer.com has contributed HEAVILY and POSITIVELY to more balance and to greater recognition of our best soccer players. No Super 22 or POY designation will ever please everyone—but SCsoccer.com has been a key part to MORE all-star events and MORE recognition—despite the overlap with other organizations, this has been great for the players. Right?

Now back to complaining—:)
