My first instinct was to call horse puckey on that one, but to be fair, while I have seen other schools attempting to draw players away from their public high school teams, I don't have any evidence of BE actively recruiting. Truth told, they probably don't need to. The reputation of the program in itself is pretty much the only recruiting tool they need; it's accepted that if you want to play on a state championship team and get noticed, BE is one of the best choices. With open enrollment, it's easier to assemble a "dream team" with the best of the best from a number of different areas rather than just a single restricted attendance zone. If you can manage to attract the single best player from 11 different schools and put them all on the field on the same team at the same time...well, the advantage speaks for itself.

For athletic purposes, even an open enrollment school like BE is required by the SCHSL to declare an attendance area, which can be either (1) the attendance area of the public school in whose
attendance area the school is located, (2) the school district in which the school is located, and (3) the
county in which the school is located. Still, even with that limitation...I'd love to be able to pull players from my entire district (or county...one and the same for me.) Advantage? Without a doubt.
