It should never have happened. Why do you want to make this personal? It has nothing to do with my son and I am offended by your attempt to bring him into the discussion.
Since when, by the way, are Freshmen and Sophomores invited to college recruiting combines?

didnt know if you had a girl or a boy.never intended to make it personal since i have no idea who you are.if you do not want me to respond to your post then next time you say someone or group is being shameful explain what they were doing in detail.as for the last part of your post about taking freshman to a college recruiting combine.last year cesa took my then freshman to winston salem.several acc teams were playing and the cesa girls played other clubs in between the acc games while coaches ,players and parents of the acc teams watched.there was no benefit to cesa other than getting some kids in front of acc coaches.even if they didnt play it was still worth being there watching dorrence get all over a tarheel freshman for screwing up. sorry if it seemed i was attacking you but you made a pretty bold statement.

what was shameful about it? that it was going on or not enough of it was coming your way!!!!
That's pretty personal - but no blood, no foul.
This is from the Administrative Handbook.
4. It is unethical for a player to be recruited or enticed from the Olympic Development Program (ODP) setting, either by his/her ODP coach or any other coaches or parent during the seasonal year.
I suppose that reasonable minds could differ on whether it is appropriate for a club to invite the State ODP teams to participate in scrimmages with their club teams and then use the occasion to recruit ODP players. By "suppose" I mean "metaphysically possible." For me, it's clearly inappropriate.

>>[HappyDaddy] I witnessed the recruiting that went on at the ODP/CESA event and it was shameful.<<
>>[happyfeet] [...] if you do not want me to respond to your post then next time you say someone or group is being shameful explain what they were doing in detail.<<
I think the miscommunication here is what the word "detail" means. I believe that "happyfeet" is referring to the details associated with the event that you claim that you witnessed -- names, dates, etc. I don't think he wanted the details of the syntax of a rule that in your opinion may have been violated or even your opinion concerning metaphysics; instead, I think he was looking for a few facts upon which to hang the whole picture, as it were.
I realize that we live in a cynical world; but someone cloaked in anonymity making a vague accusation against his child's rival club who was just beaten in the state championships might invite skepticism concerning both motive and factual basis from the most wide-eyed believers among us. I say this not as a personal attack -- your child's team is superb -- but as a way to share with you the reason that there might be a gulf between your belief system and the belief system of others.
Perhaps you could just post the text to the complaint that you made to the SCYSA after witnessing this "shameful" event.
What did the SCYSA do after you submitted your complaint?

Chico-
Again, this has nothing to do with my child or my child's team. We have a wonderful rivalry with the CESA team in our age-group and the kids know, like, respect and enjoy each other. There is zero chance of any of our players being lured away to CESA. They tried to get a couple over the years but it isn't happening. I admire CESA on many levels and always root for its teams when they are playing anyone but CUFC. My only complaint about it is what I believe to be its harmful practice of overly aggressive recruiting of players from other clubs. We've had that discussion before and don't need a general re-hashing of it.
I have personal knowledge of players at the ODP/CESA scrimmages being handed folders with their names printed on them, the folders being clearly recruiting material. Others (parents and players) were talked to during the weekend about playing for CESA.
The "rule" quoted in my earlier post is typically (for SCYS) ambiguous. The qualifier, "during the seasonal year," makes it unclear to me whether the rule was violated. That the general recruiting rule bans recruiting during the seasonal year would seem to make the "no ODP recruiting" rule superfluous as written. Either way, I'm not interested in filing complaints. I am interested in the integrity of the ODP system. It would have been great to have a weekend of scrimmages without wondering what else was going on behind the scenes. Maybe it would have been better to have them at some time other than the in the middle of club tryouts!

Here's the thread from the NC boards that happyfeet references above. (NOTE: This has nothing to do with CESA sponsoring a college showcase.) http://www.nc-soccer.net/forum/viewthread.php?tid=18954
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

what age group are we talking about?for the older groups isnt it true that during the half of the season they are not playing, another club can talk to them all they want.it may not be right in some eyes but not illegal. happydaddy that is why i had a problem with your post.the first post it seemed you were just bashing someone for the sake of doing it.now it sounds like you are saying something illegal was done.was it illegal or just not ethical in your eyes. i am sorry if it brought your kid in this and i did not really mean to.was i being a smart ass!!! YES I WAS.I have never liked a bold statement without some facts to back it up.that is why i ask was it illegal or unethical.

I don't know whether the conduct was a violation. The scrimmages took place during tryout time, which means that it was not "during the seasonal year" for anyone who wasn't going to Regionals. So, let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say that no rule was broken and that the "no ODP recruiting" rule is superfluous and meaningless. My opinion is still that it is inappropriate (shameful) to use the ODP program in the way it was used. I've said my piece on this.
I hope the combine is a great success, that lots of kids get exposed to lots of coaches and that that's all it's about.
