The CESA/Adidas initiative to expose club players to the eyes of 40+ collegiate programs in a single setting and as early as possible is a tremendously positive step for the development of the game across the state.

Like ODP and tournaments, it's another opportunity for a player to showcase his/her skill set.

As I've previously stated, "competition breeds excellence". If clubs don't continually raise the bar at every level then everyone achieves a lower level of success.

As to the issue of recruiting, if interest on the part of a player in a team and/or a coach or interest on the part of a coach in a player are both handled with clear communication, then the best interest of the player is ultimately served.

Have a passion and vision for excellence, supported by commitment and hard work by absolutely everyone and a high degree of success is likely to follow. Without it . . . well, we all know what generally happens in that case.

Who among us can say we're able to go through the day not striving to be better today than we were yesterday? If players and clubs aren't living by this rule when it comes to their own development, they have no chance of becoming better.

CUFC recently organized a scrimmage for the U16's with Cobb, which was held in the Clemson stadium. Last summer, CUFC organized what I assume will be an annual event for SC vs NC all-star game in conjunction with the Battery. It's great to see such club vision and commitment delivered to the player community.

When I think back to when I was 15, absolutely nothing like this was available in any sport. Thank you to everyone who makes it happen for the players. Looking forward to the CESA Combine!

Due to the overwhelming response to the CESA Combine, registration will close on Wednesday at 3:30pm. Interested players who have not yet registered may do so via fax or mail. Please log on at www.carolinaelitesc.com. Look for "select" and then "forms" in order to complete the registration form. The fax number and mailing address can also be found on the website.

Wow. Somebody anonymously took a cheapshot in the dark. Chico turned the lights on and took care of some business. I love it when accountability is brought to a message board.

I'm not going to get in a p***ing contest on this board. If you want to discuss this, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. Did your parents name you W&E, or was yours an anonymous post?

HD,
You started this p*^$*(& contest. Why are you still on this thread. Your disdain for the combine is well documented here or do you just enjoy the punishment.

Disdain - I do not think it means what you think it means (In the immortal words of Inigo Montoya).

The combine is a fine idea and I hope lots of players are exposed to lots of coaches. I have a vague notion of having said that before ***checks thread*** because I did. My concern with it is clearly delineated. I raised the issue and was asked to provide specifics. I did. Some may think that it's fine to have ODP/Club scrimmages during tryouts and use the occasion to recruit players. I don't. Some may think it silly to suggest that a club might have, shall we say, dual purposes in putting together an event like the combine. Others may think it's perfectly fine to use an event like the combine to recruit. You know what - those would be perfectly reasonable opinions to hold. They don't happen to be mine though. If you want to "debate" the substance of the issues, I'm happy to do that. That, to answer your silly question, is "why I'm still in this thread."

Since when, by the way, are Freshmen and Sophomores invited to college recruiting combines?

My understanding is a number of colleges have already completed their recruiting processes for verbal committments through the class of 2009. While the colleges are not currently allowed to actively recruit members of the classes of 2010 and 2011, the colleges are already evaluating and tracking members of those classes. One of the advantages of participation in ODP is the opportunity to play for and in front of college coaches from around the region. ODP members of the class of 2011 are beginning their third year of evaluations by college coaches.

It is my understanding that many, if not the majority, of players from the CESA U-15 Premier Girls team will be attending the combine. I would guess that a smaller percentage of U-17 and U-18 premier level players may be participating due to having already made verbal committments to colleges or taking the SAT that morning.

It's a bit unusual, but there's certainly nothing wrong with it.

Fascinating...this entire thread reminds me of the following dialogue from that same movie:

Inigo Montoya: But, I promise I will not kill you until you reach the top.
Man in Black: That's VERY comforting, but I'm afraid you'll just have to wait.
Inigo Montoya: I hate waiting. I could give you my word as a Spaniard.
Man in Black: No good. I've known too many Spaniards.

Your invitation to a co-public urination party combined with your screen name scares the begeezees out of me. Consider your personal circus a solo act. There is a hierarchy on this board and Chico just introduced you to your place. Hate me not for such a thing.
