Congratulations to the U.S. squad, which posted a 2-0 victory against Brazil. The U17s also defeated Russia by the same scoreline on Thursday and will face Turkey tomorrow night in another televised match on FSC (8:00 p.m., I believe).
The "NIKE Friendlies" are being held at the Residency Program's headquarters -- IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.

Assuming there is only one Middle Grove NY, where did he learn his skills and how was he ever discovered? I used to travel through Middle Grove NY every summer on my way to summer camp. Back in the 60's Middle Grove had one gas station and a stop light! I went through there again 6 or 7 years ago and it's not much bigger. I would say it's smaller than McBee, SC. There's no industry there that would account for him moving there already skilled. I've always wondered about talented people not getting the break because they were from small places with little media coverage (not to mention average coaches and programs). I guess he's proof that it can happen. (Assuming there is only one Middle Grove NY) Wait, what's going on here, there's a kid from Greenfield Center NY, on the U18 squad. Greenfield Center, another small town, is about 5 miles from Middle Grove. There must be something in the water!

I am proud to say I have had the opportunity to work with both of these boys for several years through both school and club ball. Warren Gross is now a freshman at Penn State and David MacVane Jr. is on his way to USC in the Fall as you know. I've had the pleasure of coaching both of these two fine men. I've been both around the country and around the world with both of them. I've been to the park banging soccer balls around the park. Last year, Warren helped me coach my U9 travle team, and Dave is now helping me as U10's. They are both excellent athletes and great people.
How do two top soccer players come from two tiny little towns in Upstate NY? Great coaching, hard work, and determination to be the best. I know both of them have had David MacVane Sr. as a coach for many years. Dave Sr. is a great coach with lots of insight on the game. I know Dave Jr. basically dedicated his teenage years to becoming the best soccer player he could spending countless hours in the yard dribbling, juggling, shooting, working out, etc. Both of these superb athletes made their way to the National Pools through ODP and Super Y.
FYI: Dave Jr. has a little brother Dylan who is currently a 7th grader. Dylan is following in his brother's footsteps and is already quite the player.

Saratoga Soccer, Tell Miles Joseph we all said "hello" and we hope he is doing well. Go Tigers!
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.
