No. 2 Airport faces No. 3 Bearcats tonight at The Cage
John Devlin, The State - MidlandsPreps.com
Second-ranked Airport takes a short ride to take on No. 3 Brookland Cayce at The Cage in a headline girls soccer match on Thursday night.
Airport enters the Region 4-3A showdown riding an 11-match winning streak. The Eagles have not faltered since dropping a 4-3 decision to Irmo in the season opener at the Viking Cup in late February.
The Eagles have not played since wrapping up their third straight championship at their own tournament with a 4-0 win over Clover on March 22. Airports most notable win during the two-day affair was a 3-2 semifinal success against South Aiken.
High-scoring Casi Jones rang up nine goals and six assists in four tournament matches. Courtney Schumpert and Erin Gray were also quite productive during the title run. Schumpert finished with three goals and six assists, while Gray scored two goals and was credited with seven assists. Emily Jeffcoat, Veta Schumpert and Kelly Smith scored two goals apiece during the tournament.
Brookland-Cayce (8-1-1) is also on a roll with eight straight wins on the books after opening the season with a 2-1 loss to No. 1, defending state champion Riverside and playing South Aiken to a 0-0 draw at the Viking Cup.
The Bearcats returned to action after an 11-day break on Tuesday, and whipped up on Strom Thurmond, 11-0. Seven players scored in the region romp with Kayla Fralick and Randall Dominguez scoring two goals apiece.
Aiport swept B-C en route to winning the 4-3A title last season. The Bearcats gained a split with the Eagles in the 2006, and ended up sharing the region championship with Chapin.
