What a great day and way to send our sons and daughters off.

It sure seemed like the bigger named teams' players may actually be better as complimentary players than go to's.

Kids that came from not so big name teams were better at adjusting to level of competition.

Maybe it was just me but some of the guys seemed to play like they thought they should have been selected to play on a higher level post season match.

Oh yeah, and what was with the MVP recognition? Players that deserved more consideration got passed up, laughingly so to the recipitents.

On behalf of the SCHSSCA, I would like to thank and congratulate all 69 of the boys/girls players, our eight N/S staff coaches, '09 Dick Walsh Award Recipient David Easley, our two SCHSSCA Hall of Fame Inductees Andy Demori & Ted Miller, the hard-working and dedicated SCHSSCA Executive Board and member coaches, and Wofford College - particularly John Blair - for their outstanding efforts in hosting the event.

Also, a tremendous thanks to Columbia United FC for providing the principal financial support of our all-star games!

A special thank you to North/South Soccer Classic Director Katie Smith who really did a tremendous job in coordinating this year's NSSC!

The North started shorthanded because the event was skipped by some of its players, two of whom were no-shows apparently without any notification.

Who skipped? Why? That's inexcusable!!!

Zack Clark of Northwestern had a goal on a free kick and an assist on a corner kick.

Sounds like an MVP type of day to me!

One would have to have been there to recognize that the MVP was quickly offered due to the weather front approaching. It was more obvious that certain players with bleach in their hair would have been voted worst sports. They quit when they got beat and they used language when they were subbed for that the Navy would have kicked sailors out for using. My son had a great time and I did as well knowing he enjoyed himself playing with some of the best in the state. Really sad to think that his days may be over for this game called soccer to which we all came to love and respect. Good luck to everyone moving on and fast healing to the ladies that got hurt in the girls game.

MVP selections are very difficult in games like these. In the girls' game I have no argument with the choice of Macy Hayes, but I also thought the North's Jacalyn Bundrick of Gilbert was outstanding. She gave the South defense fits before she was injured. Sure wish her the best and hope the injury is not as severe as initially thought.

On the South side, Lexington's Deidre Ball at center back did a great job of keeping Bundrick and the other North attackers from getting good looks in the final third.

Of course, there were quite a few good performances in the girls' game on Saturday, but these two really stood out to me.

With a "Lexington, SC" address attached to your screen name, it doesn't surprise me that you would mention the Lexington girl and the Gilbert girl.

By the way, I have seen Deidre Ball play over the past three seasons and I think she's fantastic too.
