I would like to congratulate the South Carolina boys for their 3-2 victory over North Carolina Friday in the 4th Annual Clash of the Carolinas!

The boys really came together despite only having one training session, but their ability to put the team first was a credit to them and the pride in which they represented their schools, communities, and state!

This outstanding group of young men will always be able to say with pride that they were the first Palmetto State boys team to win the Clash against their Tar Heel opponents.

Coach Quinlan and I were honored to work with such a good group of boys and certainly wish them the very best in the future!

I have a question about both games. How were the girls selected and how do officials get chosen?

I ask because South Carolina's girls team was really at a disadvantage in terms of skill and talent. Surely this group did not represent the top 18 seniors in this state. Or did they?

In the boys game the kid with dreadlocks for SC got horse collared and taken to the ground but he was the one whistled for the foul. In fact since the official called him for the foul it should have been a penalty kick because it was well within the box, but in reality the foul was definitely on the NC player and the referee totally messed up the call. He seemed a little green for that type of game. The rotund linesman with the mustache couldn't even keep up with the play because it was so fast and had to be relieved in the second half. That was a fun game to watch!

As far as the girl's game, my understanding is that names were submitted and then chosen from that list. There were some potentially key players that I heard weren't available-college summer school, vacations etc. As far as skill and talent, at least offensively, the style of play that was coached did not play to the strengths of the players on the team. Knowing many of the NC players, there is some difference in overall talent, though not huge (in that respect some of the NC players that opted out would have made a bigger difference). The NC girl's team is defintely deeper.

As far as the refs, I don't know about the selection process
